Entrepreneur Scores Big for Women in Business

101 Mobility of Rochester awarded with Women-Owned Business Enterprise certification.

Let’s hear it for the girls: Jessica Millan, who co-owns 101 Mobility of Rochester with her husband Miguel Millan, earned a Women-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE) certification on June 30 for their business.

“I’m all about cheering for the girls!” Jessica laughed. “I feel very grateful for being a woman and receiving this type of certification.”

The designation will allow 101 Mobility of Rochester, a leading provider of mobility and accessibility solutions in the area, the opportunity to build a unique marketing strategy based on the fact that their company is woman-owned.

The requirements for becoming WBE certified include having a woman who owns at least 51% of the business, who also serves as the president or CEO. She must also be active in daily management, be a U.S. citizen, and have ownership of her position for at least 6 months.

Jessica, who is a self-proclaimed “numbers woman,” has been president of the business since its formation in 2012. Her duties include keeping track of accounting and payroll for the company.

“It was a lengthy process,” Jessica spoke of the time it took to achieve the designation. “I was so excited when we finally got our certification.”

“There are many nonprofits that look for this type of certification,” explained Miguel. “Receiving this WBE certification will help us to get the word out about our business.”

Aside from establishing overall credibility, becoming WBE-certified has plenty of added benefits. Many publicly-held corporations and government purchasing agencies have programs in place to do business solely or mostly with women-owned vendor companies.

“I’m grateful because we can now service more organizations,” Jessica conveyed. “Our goal has always been to empower those with disabilities. This certification will allow us to expand that network.”

According to Jessica, the bottom line for her entrepreneurial spirit is – and has always been – to help more people.

“Helping people is the primary driver for doing what we do,” she said. “The greatest gratification is to empower people with disabilities to age in place in their homes. That’s the goal that most of our customers have; and we have all the tools and resources to do just that.”
